Know your history.

Dear Friend,

The hurt is still leaking out of your pours. And the anger. And the pride. And I'll let a lot go because of that. I truly hurt for you, cause I can only imagine.

But when you rain down the fires of judgment on others without thinking, don't expect me to remain silent. "Christians and Catholics?" Seriously? Where do you think you came from. That's as ridiculous as the gap toothed in bread flag waving hillbilly who rails against "keeping them their immigrants out" completely oblivious to the fact that all of his relatives were immigrants not three generations hence.

Where do you think you came from? Do you think you popped up out of the ether? Once upon a time, the Catholic Church was the expression of Christianity in the western world. It held the light of the faith through the time known as the Dark Ages.

And Communion? I guess they take Jesus more literally than you. After all, he says, "This is my Body." You can pretend, for all you want, that this is a mere metaphor. But then the rest of your scriptural reading is going to be quite problematic. What is, after all, true and what is metaphor? And are you the best arbitrator of that knowing? An old professor of mine used to say, If Jesus Christ is The Truth, then everything else is metaphor. Perhaps that is more correct. And then our Catholic friends. Well, at least my Catholic friends, you might not have any, are more correct.

Hey. I'm not repping for the brand. I'm not joining up any time soon. If I'm going that way, I'm going Greek Orthodox. Better festivals. But in the words of Andy Stanley, Jesus doesn't draw lines, he draws circles. So why are you drawing lines?
