Friend. and other Friend, And other friends and yet to be friends.
I know that it's not your month. June is a long way off. I'm not sure who decided that it was a good idea to have a calendar be straight and white for eleven months and gay and black for one month a piece. At least some of my friends get two different months. Way to double up in celebrating oppression. Can you use the same decorations for both sets of parties?
Seriously, thanks for reaching out to me, long before I reached out to you. I'm surprised by your courage. I'm impressed by your mercy. I'm overwhelmed by your love. And I'm forever thankful.
Thinking of you often. Thinking of you specifically because of what happened in the Bride's room at school. One little cub came with a purse in his backpack. The wolves circled, as wolves will predictably do. Little cub had no idea why anyone would make fun of him. Wolves pressed in harder. Then one of his friends said, "If that's the way you want to play, then I'm going to wear a bow in my hair. That way, you can tease me, too." Courage. Love. At the Christian School. And maybe a little bit more Hope for the walls outside of it.
I have friends who will come hard with their judgment because I'm flying the flag. I'm tempted to tap back. I could destroy them with my words. It's in my skill set. I still remember the Old Man that was able to punch so hard with words that they wouldn't be able to get up off the couch for a week. But your courage and love and mercy has taught me that you deserve more. And that I deserve more. And that they deserve more. So let them judge me. Most of them are easily distracted. And while they are judging me, maybe they'll forget to judge you for an hour or two. Enjoy your time. I know it won't last. But you deserve it.
thus spake,
me
