Dear Friend,
I'm hurt for you. Again. Still. And I think I get it. You wanting to hide from the world. From your family. From anyone that would love you. Sometimes numbness seems to promise more relief than feeling of any kind-- even health or healing or hope. Is that about right? And numb is comfortable because numb is familiar and numb means you don't have to think or feel. Numb promises a sort of freedom, doesn't it, because at least it promises the freedom from fear.
There is a certain freedom within a prison. There is a certain freedom for a prisoner. That is the siren song that calls the free child back within the walls. But, dear friend, numb is the same prison that will keep you chained by old patterns. It will hold you down in the bondage of past mistakes. The flaws of yesterday will reassert themselves in the relationships of today. And far too soon hope and joy will be infrequent visitors outside the walls.
I love you, friend. Can you come outside, even for a little while?
thus spake,
me
