Time to seek you. Just FYI

Dear Friend,

I'm going to seek you out. It appears I may be in for a long and difficult hunt. You are, dare I say it, slightly slippery. Usually, when I ask people if they'd like to get together, and they reply, "we should do that sometime" I can immediately count on the fact that it's never going to happen. Give me a day, a date, or a one week window. But "should" Should means no chance. So you've been in the no chance column every time it's come up. But I'm getting the feeling I need to reach a little harder.

I get it. You carry around a lot of pain. And you're struggling. It's a lot more fun to celebrate your victories than come face to face with your failures. I'm not sure what's inside the shell. The problem, for us, I think, is that you know I see the shell.

So lets start with a softball question. Right now. In this minute. Is righteousness your best play? Is the attempt at diligent rule following your only move? Because it seems a lot like "fake it until you make it." And faking it is, in a word, exhausting. Yes. you can seek out the perfect image of the righteous and try to model it all day long. But I'm not sure it's going to get you where you want to be. Or anywhere close.

There's a different model in play. Surrender. A tired child climbing into the lap of a Perfect Parent. Safe. At Peace. At rest. Headed towards hope and healing. And maybe even joy. Your choice, friend. You really do have one. I know what I'd pick if I were you. But I can't make choices for people I love. Only proclaim and pray.

thus spake,

me
