Dear One,

Let's admit I blew it. What I said, I said in love. You heard it in judgment. That's on me. One hundred times I'd like to tell you one more time why I said what I said. But that will be a thousand times more a hindrance than a help. Just know this. Because of the bruises I've picked up, I understand your bruises. Because of the cuts and the scrapes I've accrued, I'm sensitive to yours. Because of the scars I've endured, the last thing I want if for your body to become a canvas of scars.

Maybe that's why Jesus so intrigues me. And infuses me. And inspires me. Because it's said of him, in a prophesy about him over 700 years before his birth.

He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand. One look at him and people turned away. We looked down on him, thought he was scum.

But the fact is, it was our pains he carried - our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us. We thought he brought it on himself, that God was punishing him for his own failures.

But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him - our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed.

For all my pains and scars. I can't save you from yours. But He can. You might not know that yet. But he does. You might not believe that now. But He will. And so I know that no matter what, you're going to be good. And I'll leave you on His doorstep, even when you're not at mine.

thus spake,

me.
